BANK cards were stolen from a woman’s car while she was distracted by the thief’s accomplice in a Belper carpark.

The incident happened at Morrisons on Monday at 11.20am, when the victim was returning her trolley after leaving her car unlocked.

She was stopped by a white woman with a French accent who asked directions and it’s believed that while this happened another person stole cards from the vehicle.

When the victim returned home she was contacted by her bank who advised her transactions had taken place and she alerted police.

A spokeswomen for Derbyshire police reminded shoppers to be on their guard after an increase in purse thefts in Belper town centre.

Since the start of the year, seven purses have been stolen in Belper and police are advising people to keep a watchful eye on them and their wallets.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
