WI: The meeting began with minutes for the previous meeting being read by Rosmary Parkes. President, Elaine Hobson, advised the meeting that Brenda Stannering’s open gardens had raised £35.05. Helpers were required for the next open garden that took place on July 17, 2011.
Members were advised that posters and fliers were now ready to be displayed and distributed for the WI’s open morning. This will take place on July 30, 2011, at The Hut.
Ian Blythe from Air Ambulance will be visiting; visitors will be able to buy air ambulance products. Member’s cakes, preserves, plants and fresh produce will also be available to purchase. WI members will serve refreshments to visitors. All proceeds will be donated to Air ambulance.
The Hut has been hired out to a local cycling club. This is the first response to the WI’s new web site www.shottlegatewomensinstitute.com
Four members have agreed to take part in the County group quiz on September 9, at the Weston Centre, Duffield.
Pauline Kinderman gave a report on her recent visit to the WI AGM that took place in Liverpool.
The speaker for the evening was Mr G. Hook from Smethick. Mr Hook provided an interesting talk on the production of mother of pearl buttons and jewellery. Various shells provided the vital materials to make the buttons and jewellery used at his factory in Birmingham. Jean Crane thanked Mr Hook for his informative talk along with his amusing sense of humour.
