Where is the north? A national debate has been sparked after Helen Pidd, the Guardian’s northern editor, revealed on Twitter that Britain’s government seemed a bit hazy on exactly where the north referred to.
James Wharton, the new minister for the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ policy said the exact extent of the north is not prescribed by the government.
This revelation plays into all sorts of prejudices about how little London knows of the rest of the country.
So where exactly does the north start?
Some people on Twitter seemed pretty confident the north was considered anything above Nottingham, Derby and Leicester.
Another suggestion was anything above Grimsby was labelled north.
Where do you think the north and south divide is?
