AROUND 650 a home care and residential care staff will be giving up their Christmas festivities to make sure thousands of older and vulnerable people are looked after.

The Derbyshire County Council home care staff will be visiting people at home as normal, ensuring they receive their day-to-day care that helps them to live at home.

Hundreds more adult care staff will be at work as usual over the festive period working in 28 residential care homes across the county, including kitchen staff and cleaners.

There are around 3,000 people residing in care homes in the county.

Our Cabinet Member for Adult Care Councillor Charles Jones said: “Some people will go in to residential care temporarily over Christmas as family are away and staff will make an extra special effort to make them feel welcome and for things to be as homely as possible for them.

“I’d like to add an extra thanks for family carers who support their relatives all year and help us to do our jobs.”
