Friends and family of a Denby man who was diagnosed with cancer helped raise more than £4,000 for charity with a sponsored walk.

Viv and Graham Middleton and their family had their world turned upside down when Graham was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2010.

After three years of ups and downs following chemotherapy Graham’s health has improved and the family decided to give back by raising money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

They came up with the idea of holding a 24-hour relay walk through Derbyshire stretching a tiring 53 miles. And when it came to take part on Saturday, July 26, the pair were taken aback by the generosity of their supporters.

Viv said: “The whole thing snowballed thanks to the power of social media, we were initially expecting around 20 walkers, in the end there was over 100 people. We really did discover that we’ve got some absolutely fantastic friends and family. We were absolutely stunned and humbled by the whole experience.”
