Taxis checked out in council safety drive

Erewash Borough Council joined forces with Derbyshire Constabulary to carry out borough-wide checks on taxi and private hire vehicles to ensure high safety standards are being maintained.

A total of 21 vehicles licensed with the council were inspected and just three minor mechanical defects and two small licensing issues were discovered – with two of the problems rectified immediately and the owners of the three other vehicles given seven days to sort the minor issues.

The checks, led by the council’s licensing team, were carried out on Friday January 17 at Ilkeston Tesco and Long Eaton train station and at both Ilkeston and Long Eaton taxi ranks.

Pc Lee Simpson, of Derbyshire Constabulary, said: “It was pleasing to see that no major mechanical defects were detected during the check and the cars were of a standard expected by the local authority.”
