1. National Mills Weekend - Cromford Mills, Strutt’s North Mill, Belper, Masson Mill, Cromford, Caudwell’s Mill, Rowsley, Stainsby watermill, Slinter Mill, Matlock, Heage Windmill
Celebrate the county’s mills heritage, particularly the engineers and millwrights who constructed these eye-catching landmarks and their machinery. National Mills Weekend takes place this Saturday and Sunday, May 13 and 14.

2. Fordante, Heage Village Hall
TV and film composer Phil Mountford returns to Derbyshire with his critically acclaimed ensemble Fordante this Friday, May 12, at 7.30pm. The concert called From Puccini to the Movies features some of the most beautiful light classics, tear jerking opera arias and movie soundtracks ever written, from composers such as Strauss, Puccini and Ravel along with a mix of his own film-inspired music.

3. Multiple Memories Railcar Gala, Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, Wirksworth
Travel back to the 50s, 60s and 70s with the Multiple Memories Weekend this Saturday and Sunday, May 13 and 14, which celebrates the unsung heroes of British Railways. The event features the intense ‘orange’ timetable, a large selection of diesel railcars and even a fish and chip special on the Saturday evening.

4. Bob Fox, St John’s Church, Long Eaton
Stunning music from the multi-award winning smash hit adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse performed by the West End show’s ‘songman’ is being brought to Long Eaton as part of the Live and Local programme on Sunday, May 14, at 7pm. Folk legend Bob featured in the West End production of War Horse for 18 months and is now on a solo tour to take songs from the show to small venues across the country.

5. Chesterfield Area Walking Festival
Take advantage of the numerous walks taking place in and around Chesterfield as part of the festival, which runs until Sunday, May 14.

6. In The Tradition concert, Nailers Football Club Concert Room, Belper
This is a special concert featuring some of the best musicians and singers from the younger generation on the folk scene on Saturday, May 13, at 8pm. Appearing will be Granny’s Attic, Benammi Swift, and Abbie Rechert.

7. Open day and fund dog show, The Ark, Ashbourne
The animal sanctuary will host the event on Sunday, May 14, between 11am and 4pm. The Allsorts fun dog show starts at 12.30pm and features categories including best puppy and most appealing eyes.

8. Gloriator, Waingroves Community Centre
The Oscar-winning Hollywood blockbuster Gladiator is re-imagined on a shoestring, with just two actors and everything made of cardboard this Saturday, May 13, at 7pm. This is a gloriously witty knockabout comedy by a wonderful French / English duo.

9. YesFest, Lea Green
The 25-acre countryside site at Lea Green Centre will open its doors this Sunday, between 11am and 7pm for a family festival.
The action-packed day will feature live music from established bands including The Buffalo Skinners and Cortez Bank, food and drink and fun outdoor activities including Skyline and adaptable buggies.

10. Habeas Corpus - various locations

High Tor Players tour their production of Alan Bennett’s comedy of ill manners which includes mistaken identities and carnal encounters.
