A MUSICIAN dubbed the “Vanessa Mae of the organ and keyboard world” is set to perform in Belper.
Chiho Sunamoto, who has composed and written material for a variety of Japanese TV shows, will appear at the town’s Congregational Church on Saturday, May 19.
Originally from Matsuyama, in the South of Japan, Chiho began learning the piano at the age of three and became one of the youngest people ever to pass Yamaha’s top exam, the Grade three Music Diploma.
She went on to become an overseas demonstrator for Yamaha, performing in 42 countries until in 1986 she settled in North Shields in the North East of England.
Since being based in the UK, Chiho has released eight CDs and performed at the Edinburgh Festival, Becks Theatre London, Blackpool Tower Centenary concert, as well as a live broadcast on Radio 2 and appearing in a Channel 4 documentary series about the organ.
Now she is set to take to the stage in Belper and will perform in front of the Belper & District Organ & Keyboard Club at the Green Lane Church from 6.45pm until 7.30pm.
