As well as bagging top spot at Miss & Mr Pole Essex, Karrie Hammersley, 30, is also competing in Miss Pole Dance UK next month.

Not only that, the mother-of-one has also been approached by fellow instructors in Stavanger, Norway, to teach learners and instructors there next month.

Karrie, who competed in the semi-pro category during the Essex competition, said: “I’m just really happy, excited and shocked to have reached first place because there were some really good dancers there who have a lot of experience competing.

“But it was also really good experience which gave me some good knowledge to pass on to my students.”

Karrie teaches classes at Belper, Ripley and Matlock every week but says people often get the wrong idea about the sport.

She added: “People usually go into the classes absolutely terrified, thinking they will be wearing skimpy outfits - but they can wear whatever is comfortable.

“Everybody is very supportive and cheers each other on - it’s a great feeling wheen you get a trick right that you have been working on for a while - it makes it all worth it.

“I really enjoy seeing people happy and growing in confidence - happy in themselves.”

Karrie, who started out with the sport six years ago, after attending a class with a friend, said she fell in love with it instantly and just kept going.

As well as various pole dancing classes, Karrie is also available for private lessons and small groups.
