Belper folk are pictured here at the blessing ceremony of a First World War poppy field on the Chevin, near the town.

The blessing was part of Belper’s commemorations of the 100th anniversary of the opening day of the Battle of the Somme.

Adrian Farmer, of Belper’s World War One commemoration group, said: “Thirty-two people turned out for a procession to the field before a short service was held and the were poppies blessed.”
