VIDEO: Show celebrates life of Dickens

Strutts Community Centre came alive with Dickensian inspired performances as part of an event to celebrate the author’s bicentenary.

Readings and dramatisations from Ebenezer Scrooge and Oliver Twist were among the highlights of the evening in the main hall which had been decorated with portraits of Dickens characters.

Children from Belper School also gave an ensemble performance of Dicken’s life and works and the Chevin Singers performed songs from the time including No Place Like Home.

The event was organised by the Strutts Events Committee and at the end of the show the audience were shown a promotional video for Belper Players’ Christmas production of Nicholas Nickleby, filmed by former Belper School pupil and show technician,Louis Vella, aged 18 (above).
