The Met Office is warning of travel disruption, damage to buildings and possible flooding when the storm arrives in the county this afternoon (Monday, June 15), with loss of power likely in some areas.

The ‘yellow’ weather warning, which covers Derbyshire as well as Yorkshire and the Humber area, will be in place until 9pm today (Monday, June 15) and comes as non-essential shops open for the first time in almost three months.

Aidan McGivern, Met Office meteorologist, said: “Conditions are ripe for heavy showers and thunderstorms to bubble up in places- not just today, but for the rest of the week.”

Showers are expected to continue until Friday when cloud is forecast, although temperatures will also pick up, climbing above 20°C.
