YOUR SAY: Here's what YOU really think about Chesterfield

During an interview last week the 26-year-old rock star, who has enjoyed success with the four-piece band, said : “I love Chesterfield loads. I think people from Chesterfield are a bit ungrateful to be from here to be honest.“Once you’ve been away and experienced other places, you realise how good this town is and how lucky we all are.”
On a cold afternoon in February we struggled to find people who felt quite the same. Here are some of the responses when we asked people on Chesterfield ‘Do you love Chesterfield?’


Alex Cutts, 17: “It has declined over the last few years, especially in town. The Post Office closed and everyone goes to the retail park instead of coming to town.”


Jane Price, 47: “I come from Nottingham originally so I like it because there is a more relaxed atmosphere. The centre of town has gone downhill and you do see some undesirable people about.”

Barbara Hamlet, 70: “I think it’s lost its heart and character. The market used to be heaving and full of shoppers but you come down now and there is nobody here. There is nowehere to park when you need to go and do a food shop in town, and no entertainment places.”

Lynne Speed, 50: “There are some nice people but some idiots too but I would rather live here than somewhere like Manchester.”

Danielle Wynn, 18: “I like it here. It’s good in some ways but bad in others. The town centre is where all the problems kick off.”

Lawson visited Chesterfield recently as they brace themselves for their next big pop-rock hit, ‘Money’, which lead singer Andy Brown wrote and described as a “banger”
