The Drop Inn faces yet another challenge – we are about to lose our popular music studio – The JamJar, due to the foundations crumbling! The studio which was funded by Lloyds Community Foundation was opened in March 2013 by local MP Pauline Latham, it has proved to be a fantastic asset to the young people of the Drop Inn providing them with rehearsal and lesson space for either individuals or groups. It has been well used, many of the young people using the space have gone on to perform at community events as well as within the Drop Inn, others have gained qualifications there.Local company Norder have generously carried out a structural survey at no cost to support us – now we have to raise the funds to repair and make the building safe for continued use including underpinning the foundations. We have faced many challenges over the 14 years including theft, flood, fire and bankruptcy – we are like a phoenix, we come back stronger after each challenge. We only manage this with the fantastic support from individuals, groups and businesses from our community, it really is heart-warming when we hear the range of people who support us, and of course the support of the dedicated team and young people from the Drop Inn. A massive thank you goes to Nick and Kate from Penny’s Fund who started our Save our JamJar fund by donating £1,000 from Belper Games where the Drop Inn supported by providing sound systems, sound technicians and musicians at their event. The Drop Inn team and young people have organised a massive fundraising event in December to help the funds. We are holding an auction and raffle over two days, Friday 12th December at the Cross Keys in Belper (8pm), and Saturday 13th December at the Drop Inn (6pm). Both events have live bands followed by DJs.Friday musicians include popular Amy and Lily, young band Barney Rubblz and Vinyl, followed by DJs Peter Simian, Dirty Bear and Dave Angle.Saturday kicks off with acoustic Jordan Bednall, the extremely popular Jasper Malone, and Defkon1, followed by DJs Con-Front, Shookz and Smokedog/Maestro.A guest auctioneer will take charge of proceedings taking bids between the live music acts for 12 fantastic Christmas bundles over the two nights. It could solve everyone’s Christmas present shopping, with bundles which include a Ukulele, organ, music lessons, Christmas meats, pa system hire, vouchers to many places, golf clubs, fancy goods, gadgets, spirits and wines to name a few, the list is not yet complete as donations are still coming in. The raffle is also to be drawn on December 20th at the Cross Keys – prizes are again Christmas bundles helping solve Christmaspresent dilemmasFull details are available by checking our website/facebook page or ringing Andrea on 07960 576257.
