A very good weekend for Ambergate sides

AMBERGATE Cricket Club enjoyed a very good weekend with a winning draw for the first XI being backed up by victories by both the seconds and thirds.

The first XI gained 18 points from a high-scoring home game against Shipley Hall.

The hosts posted a good total of 262-7 with Wesley Thomas top scoring with 80 and other good knocks of 47 coming from opener Jonathan Heath, 51 from David Whiteley and 45 from Muhammed Adnan who finished not out.

In reply, Shipley were restricted to 223-8 from their 46 overs with Thomas really enjoying his day by also taking 3-48 from 11 overs. Shazad Ahmed took 2-27 from eight while Phil mason (1-43), Matt Ball (1-40) and Liam Wallace (1-50) also took a wicket apiece.

Shipley’s Daniel Hanson was still there at the end having scored an unbeaten 100.

Ambergate second XI recorded a four-wicket away victory in the local derby with Belper Amateurs in Geoff Cox Cars Division 5N.

Belper Amateurs (5pts) 146 all out [43 overs] (S Dymond 43, O Deeming 33, D Charlton 5-44, T Rouse 3-38) lost to Ambergate (22pts) 148-6 [37 overs] (T Thompson 70, R Deeming 3-16) by four wickets.

And in division 9N, Ambergate thirds (22pts) 116-6 [29.3 overs] (R Bannister 31, T Thompson 3-34) beat Cutthorpe thirds (4pts) 114 all out [30 overs] (A Bird 46, A Bannister 3-5) by four wickets.


In the same division, Denby fourths beat visitors West Hallam by seven wickets.

Denby’s M Wright took a hat-trick as he finished with figures of 3-16.

Denby (22pts) 111-3 [25.2 overs] (A Parkin 31) beat West Hallam WR (2pts) 110 all out [44.1 overs] (H Page 39, N Clarke 3-18, G Foulke 3-34, M Wright 3-16 (inc hat-trick) by seven wickets.

The only other hat-trick of Saturday came in division one and was provided by Marehay’s D Buckley who took 3-24 in a five-wicket win.

Marehay (22pts) 244-5 [44.5 overs] (W Lategan 100, M Camm 78) beat Staveley Welfare (7pts) 240-7 [50 overs] (Bullimore 93, P May 50, C Bullimore 58, D Mills 3-51, D Buckley 3-24 inc hat-trick) by five wickets.

Completing a bad day for Belper Amateurs, their seconds fell to a nine wicket defeat at Marehay thirds in division 7N.
