West Hallam WR (13pts) 128-9 [38 overs] (J Porter 44, M Green 4-29) match abandoned v Belper Amateurs (12pts) 128 all out [34 overs] (D Jones 81, A Henshaw 5-33, J North 3-33)
BELPER Amateurs second XI were one of the few teams to get a game as they beat the weather to land a tie at West Hallam.
The match was restricted to 72 overs due to the inclement weather conditions. Batting first Amateurs compiled a target of 128 thanks largely to the flamboyant stroke play of Dean Jones (81) whose calculated hitting proved to be the way to play on a day fit more for bowling than batting.
However, even he could not prevent the West Hallam bowlers A Henshaw (5-33) and J North (3-33) bowling Belper out in the 34th over.
This left West Hallam chasing 129 for victory in 38 overs a total they were inching their way towards thanks to an innings of 44 ftom J Porter. But M Green (4-29) chipped away with some tight swing bowling to leave the scores tantalisingly close in the final overs.
In fact, in the end neither side could produce the winning blow in terms of the final wicket or run required for victory and the scores were level when the final ball was bowled.
Technically a draw in all senses but both sides picked up crucial points on a day when many matches were cancelled.
