Belper Ladies open new season with home defeat

Belper Ladies got off to a difficult start in the Women’s Conference North with a 2-1 defeat at home to Loughborough Students on Saturday.

Belper were playing their first game in the Conference North section of the Investec Women’s Hockey League following promotionfrom the Midlands Premier Division last season.

Sarah Glenn scored Belper’s only goal with a second-half strike, but two goals either side of her effort from Megan Lewis-Williams proved crucial for Loughborough who held out to take the points.

Belper make the long trip to face Durham this Saturday, 12pm start before an away game at Bradford’s Ben Rhydding on September 26.

Their next home game will be at home to Liverpool Sefton on October 3.
