Boxer aims to teach youngsters the ropes

BELPER boxer Gary Beardsley prides himself on his fitness levels and he is now looking to pass on his expertise by launching a new venture of fitness classes in the town at his newly-opened Belper Boxing Academy.

Fresh from making it four wins out of four in his come-back since recovering from kidney cancer, Beardsley, 43, is as enthusiastic as ever.

He explained: “I am looking to get kids off the street and to focus them onto something positive and worthwhile by teaching them the discipline of boxing through training sessions.

“It is not just for children though, it is for anyone who wants to boost their fitness and confidence as well as being taught balance and dedication.

“I must stress though that the emphasis will be firmly on fun.

“Anyone from around the ages of eight or nine is welcome to attend.”

The sessions will be held at the Vanessa Millar School of Dan-cing on Derwent Street in the town and will be on Monday evenings between 6.30pm and 7.30pm and Sunday mornings between 10am and 11am.

The cost per session is £4 per person. Further details are available from Gary Beardsley on 07722 327963.

Meanwhile, Beardsley is hoping for a shot at the EBF super-middleweight title later this year.

Gary’s latest win came against Sid Duffy from Middlesbrough who failed to come out for the second round of their clash at the Escapade nightclub in Chesterfield.

Beardsley ended: “I had lost 6lbs since my previous bout and was a lot sharper. Hopefully, the win has set me up to have a crack at the title at the Heritage Hotel in Derby.”
