Duffield CC 1sts recovered well from the loss of three early wickets to earn themselves a draw on Saturday, at home to Derbyshire County Cricket League Division One leader Alfreton.
On a dry pitch and in hot conditions, Duffield won the toss and asked their visitors to bat first.
After the early loss of Ryan Bramwell, Matt Lineker and Alex Mace put on 89 before the former was dismissed by Richard Jordan for 55.
Mace then combined well with Thomas Bentley in a stand of 93 before he was out for 68.
Bentley went on to make 57 and the latter stages of the Alfreton innings were boosted by 29 not out off 22 balls from Jake Simpson.
Alfreton’s final total was 264-6 from 50 overs.
Duffield’s attack was without leading wicket takers Adam Short and Balraj Johal.
The main wicket takers were Peter Jenkins with 3-57 and Richard Jordan with 2-39.
When it came to Duffield’s reply, they suffered three early setbacks with the dismissals of Jack Clark for 14, Tim Williscroft for 15 and skipper Paul Bakel for eight, to leave them on 38-3.
All three were dismissed by Adam Burton on his way to figures of 5-31.
After those early setbacks, the majority of the Duffield innings consisted of a steady partnership between Thomas Roe and Peter Jenkins that eventually yielded 80 vital runs.
Jenkins was dismissed for 27 but Roe continued on his merry way to finish on an unbeaten 70 as his side successfully batted out the overs for a draw.
The home side finished on 161- 5 with Burton taking all the wickets to fall.
Duffield took six points from the game and Alfreton secured 18 to leave them nine points clear at the top.
On Saturday, are away at Ambergate in the A6 derby.
