Alfreton seconds beat Meadows seconds by one wicket

Belper Meadows 2nds (5pts) 104 all out [39.2 overs] (A Holland 48, C Taylor 6-32) lost to Alfreton 2nds (22pts) 110-9 [50 overs] by 1 wicket

BELPER Meadows second XI fell to a narrow one-wicket defeat in a low-scoring game at home to Alfreton seconds last Saturday.

The Meadows were all out for just 104 off 39.2 overs, Adam Holland top scoring with 48.

Colin Taylor was easily the picket of the wicket-takers for Alfreton with 6-32 from 13.2 overs.

In reply, Alfreton got home at 110-9 off the full 50 overs despite being tied down by David Jenkins 2-29 off 14 overs, David Nightingale 2-17 off 14 overs and Neil Norton 2-2 off four overs.

Meanwhile, Meadows firsts found their first victory of the stop-start season with a 14-run win over Sandiacre Town seconds at Christchurch Meadows on Sunday in the first round of the Marston’s Smooth Trophy.

Meadows opener Ryan Buckley got his side off to a good start with 63 before he was bowled by Adam Fearnley at 158-4.

Adrian Marsh had hit 15 when he was stumped by Bill Anderson off the bowling of Anthony Taylor.

Joe Slater (8) and Andrew Finch (4) fell cheaply before the innings was boosted by 58 from Tim Williscroft.

The Meadows innings ended on 216 in the 46th over as Sandiacre’s Ben Trembling picked up the last two wickets to finish with 3-32 off seven overs.

Anthony Taylor finished with 3-43 from ten overs.

In reply, the Meadows chase for wickets got off to a great start when opener John Murfin was caught by Richard Marsh off the bowling of Matt Murfin for a duck with the score on 6-1.

Ben Ruhrmund hit the game’s highest score with 82 for Sandiacre and Bill Anderson added 51 but the visitors fell behind the run chase rate and in the end were stuck on 202-9 off their allotted 50 overs, 14 runs shy of the Meadows total.
