Second-placed Belper Meadows 1sts completed a four-wicket victory over Staveley Welfare on Saturday in Division 6N of the Derbyshire County Cricket League, while leaders Belper Amateurs drew their game at Clowne Town.
Meadows bowled first and restricted Staveley to 129-7 from 46 overs with Matthew Jones opening the bowling and returning the fine figures of 3-30 from his 14 overs. Also chipping in was Mitchell Robinson with 2-21.
In reply, Belper Meadows had to graft for their victory but eventually reached 130-4 in the 31st over to take 22 points from the encounter.
The innings was largely based around knocks of 47 from Michael Cox and 42 not out from James Cox.
They are in second, five points behind leaders - and local rivals - Belper Amateurs 1sts.
All of their batsmen made decent starts at Clowne Town and helped to compile a total of 210-4 off 46 overs.
Stephen Dymond led the way with 65 while Ben Gowing and James Deeming both made 27.
It was hard going for Clowne in reply as they eventually ended on 113-8 in the draw. Chris Maleham and David Nightingale took three wickets apiece and Amateurs took 19 points from the match.
On Sunday, both first teams were involved in Boolers Wright Cup first round action.
Amateurs were dismissed for 168 by Langley Mill United as they lost their game by 33 runs. James Deeming made 56 for Belper. They were replying to Langley Mill’s 201-9. David Nightingale took 4-26.
Belper Meadows racked up 258-7 in their 210-run thumping of Clifton. Peter Brookes (47), Joe Slater (85), Adam Holland (35) and George Hudson (53 not out) all featured strongly before Richard Howis recorded superb figures of 7-10 as Clifton were 48 all out.
