Denby CC 1sts lost by four wickets on Saturday against Spondon in the Derbyshire Premier League.

Spondon won the toss and asked their visitors to bat first.

Denby’s innings got off to a great start, thanks to an opening stand of 90 between Michael Mitchell and Bradley Davis.

Once Davis had departed for 33, Peter Burgoyne also showed he was in good nick.

Mitchell eventually went for 46 but Burgoyne teamed up with skipper Joe Greenhalgh to push the innings forward.

Burgoyne departed for a brisk 34 off 38 balls, a knock that included three sixes.

Greenhalgh went to make 41 off 34 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes along the way.

The final total for Denby was 244-7 off their 50 overs.

Chris Windmill took 6-68 for Spondon.

The home side then set off confidently in reply and just managed to get home for the loss of six wickets in 49.4 overs, in what was a tense finish.

An opening stand of 109 set a firm foundation for the innings, with key contributions coming from openers Ben Ashdown (54) and Josh Brear (106).

A run out by Rehan Hassan ended their partnership but there were other good contributions from Joe Ashdown (36) and Kashif Hussain (25 not out) to see them home. Simon Mann took 3-21 for Denby.
