Denby get the better of Marehay to earn victory

Denby CC 1sts completed a comfortable 118-run win over local rivals Marehay on Saturday in the Derbyshire Premier League.

Denby won the toss and elected to bat first at The Copper Yard.

This proved to be a good decision from skipper Joe Greenhalgh as a number of home batsmen made good contributions to what proved to be substantial total of 251-5 in 50 overs.

There then followed a second wicket stand of 87 behind Brad Davis and Peter Burgoyne, before Davis was dismissed by Ben Perry-Taylor for 41.

Burgoyne as far as 63 before becoming another victim of Ben Perry-Taylor.

Then it was over to Greg Cork and Rehan Hassan whose, stand of 83 pushed their side well past 200.

They were both out late in the innings, Cork for 55 and Rehan Hassan for 47.

Then Burgoyne got to work with the ball, completing a fine all -round display as Marehay were dismissed for 133 in 42.4 overs.

The off spinner took 5-41 in 14 overs while Will Davis recorded figures of 3-25.

For Marehay, Daniel Palmer top scored with 32, Ben Perry-Taylor made 29 and Jonathan Bradder 26 as Denby secured the win.
