DERBYSHIRE launched their LV County Championship season in fine style with a 220-run thrashing of visitors Northamptonshire over the weekend.
After a wobbly start to their first innings of 286, a maiden century from Dan Redfern (110) and 83 from Ross Whiteley helped steady the ship and post a competitive total.
Northamptonshire were then dismissed for 264 with bowlers Tony Palladino, Tim Groenewald, Mark Footitt and Ross Whiteley all among the wickets, although Groenewald picked up a knock that prevented him bowling in the second innings.
The platform for victory was then laid by a 221-run opening stand between Martin Guptill (127) and Paul Borrington (98), who fell two runs of his maiden ton. Then, the spotlight was turned on David Wainwright who produced a career-best spell of spin bowling (6-33) on his Derbyshire debut.
