Denby CC began their Derbyshire Premier League season in disappointing fashion with a five-wicket home defeat at the hands of Sandiacre Town on Saturday.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first at their hosts.
Denby found the going tough, losing early wickets on a regular basis.
Openers Alex Eyre and Michael Mitchell were both back in the pavilion by the time the home side had reached 26 and few batsmen managed to impose themselves on the Sandiacre bowlers.
Denby’s new overseas player - Australian batsman/wicketkeeper Brad Davis - came in at number four and made 13.
Ryan McFadyean took two wickets and John Jordison four as Denby were restricted to 148-9 from their 50 overs.
The most substantial stand of the innings was for the eight wicket, when 59 was addedby Greg Cork (40 not out) and Paul Allen (36).
Allen then took two wickets as Sandiacre batted soundly to reach their target for the loss of five wickets.
The win was achieved in the 44th over as a number of batsmen made decent contributions.
Denby took three points from the game while Sandiacre Town went home with 22.
Denby are away to Ticknall on Saturday.
Denby 2nds lost by three wickets in their first Derbyshire County Cricket League Division Three game of the season.
They were at Morton Colliery on Saturday, who managed to restrict Denby to 149 all out in the 41st over.
Morton then got home to win by three wickets.
Denby 3rds lost by six wicktets in Division 5N at the hands of Eckington. Denby were all out for 137.
Finally, Denby 4ths prevented a clean sweep of defeats by drawing against Belper Amateurs 2nds in Division 8N.
