Duffield suffered a batting collapse in their run chase against Alfreton in Division One of the Derbyshire County Cricket League.
Saturday’s match at Eyes Meadow saw Duffield go from 64-2 to 121 all out inside 33 overs in their efforts to challenge the 268-6 posted by Alfreton.
Only Tim Williscroft (22) and David Whiteley (51) managed to register double figure scores with the bat for Duffield as they were skittled out way short of the target.
Whiteley’s innings came from 72 deliveries and included 10 fours but the number three was the eighth wicket to fall when he was caught and bowled by Muhammed Rameez.
Rameez was the pick of the bowlers with 5-38 from 12.2 overs, which included four maidens, Jonathon Clarke (4-49) and Elliot Savidge (1-6) with the other wickets to fall.
Earlier in the day, a huge third-wicket stand of 163 between Alfreton’s Savidge and Ryan Bramwell took the attack to Duffield.
Savidge made 84 from 106 deliveries, including 11 fours, while Bramwell remained unbeaten on 97 from his 93 deliveries, including eight fours and one maximum.
Opener Tom New hit 38 and Rameez 11 as the Duffield bowlers toiled in the heat. Whiteley took 2-70, Peter Jenkins 2-61 and Jake Locke 1-40.
The result sees Duffield (three points) remain mid-table while Alfreton (27 points) sit top of the pile after 13 games.
