Duffield keep up pressure on top two with latest win

Third-placed Duffield CC 1sts recorded a maximum points victory on Saturday to keep up the pressure on the top two sides in the DCCL Play Straight Cricket Division One.

Up against Rolls-Royce Leisure, Duffield batting first and scored a very competitive total of 264-4 from their 50 overs.

There were useful contributions from just about all those who made it to the crease.

Leading the way were knocks of 63 from opener Jack Clark and 54 from skipper Paul Bakel, as well as 31 from Thomas Roe.

Rolls-Royce Leisure found the going tough in reply and were eventually skittled out for 84 as Duffield completed a victory by the considerable margin of 180 runs, to earn the maximum 27 points.

The wickets were shared between three bowlers with Adam Short taking an excellent 4-27 from 15 overs, Alex Jones 2-38 and Balraj Johal the superb return of 4-7 from nine overs.

Meanwhile, Stainsby Hall found themselves on the wrong end of the result against Rolleston in the same division, losing by six wickets to the Staffordshire-based side.

Stainsby Hall were bowled out for 156 in the final over of their allotted 50.

George Essex top scored with 23 as a number of batsman got in but failed to kick on.

In reply, Rolleston made it to the required target for the loss of four wickets, with just over two overs remaining.

Richard Gregson, Matthew Smyth and Tagenarine Chanderpaul each took a wicket and there was a run-out too.

This Saturday, it will be Duffield’s chance to take on Rolleston as they welcome them to Eyes Meadow.

As for Stainsby Hall, they are at home to Alfreton, currently one of only two sides above Duffield, leaders Marehay being the other one.
