Duffield too good for Meadows in local derby

THOMAS Roe hit an outstanding knock of 92 as Duffield overcame Belper Meadows by 54 runs on Saturday.

Roe’s innings, which included nine fours and three sixes, was the highlight of his side’s 238-8, though he was ably supported by Peter Jenkins and Paul Baker - both of whom scored 44.

Robert Borland bowled well for Belper with 4 for 67 but his side couldn’t bowl out their visitors in their 46 allotted overs, Dave Nightingale taking 2 for 65 and Michael Cox 1 for 25.

Cox was then Belper’s top scorer in the reply as his half century was ironically brought to an end by Roe who caught him out off the bowling of Shah Wali.

Cox’s innings came after a shaky start from Meadows which saw them 30-3 at one point before Richard Marsh (38) and Cox helped a recovery.

But once Cox was out, the innings fell away and Meadows were all out for 184 after 41.3 overs.

Stewart Barlow took 3 for 47, Waseem Fazal 3 for 42 and Richard Lidsey 2 for 32, with Wali and Bairaj Johal also claiming wickets.
