Former Papplewick and Linby pace man Mark Footitt is in contention to replace the injured Steven Finn for England’s fourth and final Test against South Africa.
The former Derbyshire CCC star, 29, is one of three bowling options for England, with Chris Woakes and Chris Jordan also pushing for a place in Centurion on Friday.
Finn was ruled out of the remainder of the South Africa tour on Monday with a side strain he picked up during the third Test in Johannesburg.
An England and Wales Cricket Board statement read: “Finn felt discomfort on day two of the third Test and scans revealed a left side strain.
“Finn, who had been selected in both the ODI and T20 squads, will stay in South Africa for a week to begin his rehab before returning to the UK at the end of the Test series.
“He is expected to be available for selection for the ICC World T20.”
Footitt signed a four-year contract with Surrey after five years at Derbyshire where he claimed 251 wickets at an average of 25, including 14 five-wicket hauls.
