On a lovely sunny day, Belper Meadows CC 1sts travelled to Breadsall and were asked to bowl first in Division 6N of the DCCL.
The decision seemed strange as the going was very slow with only 12 runs coming from as many overs and with wickets starting to tumble a score below 100 looked on the cards.
However, Porkess steadied the ship with a well-balanced 75 not out along with his skipper who upped the tempo during the last TEN overs in a total of 170-6 from the allotted 46 overs.
Farnsworth and Howis both bowled economical spells for Meadows while Kelly and Slater (3-16) took the wickets with a valuable run out by Hudson too.
In reply, Meadows openers Cox and Slater got the innings off to a great start with 65 being put on for the first wicket before Cox holed out to Garner for a solid 26.
This brought a mini collapse as Horton and Cox both departed quickly while the ever patient Slater kept his cool while picking off the bad ball and rotating the strike well.
Kelly hit some big blows and kept the scoreboard ticking before he also holed out to Garner for a quickfire 20 before Hudson and Brookes came and went to give Garner 5-51 before Surve hit 26.
Joe Slater remained undefeated on 63 to return another match winning double with the bat and ball for Meadows with ten overs to spare.
With five wins on the bounce for Meadows 1sts, this sees them sit second in the table, seven points off of top-placed Amateurs with a home game this coming Saturday against Stainsby Hall.
