Meadows bounce back well to secure cup victory

Belper Meadows CC 1sts bounced back well from a Division 5N league defeat on Saturday to earn a Wright Cup second round win on Sunday.

South Wingfield won the toss on Sunday and elected to bat first.

They were bowled out for 138 in 44.1 overs.

Will James was the top scorer for South Wingfield with 28 but the Meadows bowlers made runscoring tough going for the opposition batsmen.

Neil Horton took 3-29 from his nine overs while there were two wickets apiece for Matt Jones and Joe Slater.

In reply, Belper Meadows lost Peter Brookes and James Fowler for single figures but after that, there was a match-winning and unbeaten partnership of 118 between Joe Slater (76 not out) and Neil Horton (33 not out) which saw them home by eight wickets in 32.4 overs.

The win was the ideal way for them to bounce back from Saturday’s league defeat at the hands of Allestree.

Belper Meadows lost the toss, batted first and were skittled out for just 56 in 17.4 overs.

Allestree then raced to victory in just 11.4 overs to win the game by the margin of four wickets.
