Meadows hold their nerve to beat Denby by two wickets

Belper Meadows 1sts earned a two-wicket win on Saturday over local rivals Denby 3rds in a tight encounter in Division 5N.

Belper won the toss, decided to bowl first and restricted their visitors to 164-7 from 46 overs.

Denby skipper Richard Greenhalgh top scored with 54 not out while Ian Glenn made 43 and Ross Perry-Taylor scored 24.

For Belper Meadows, Matt Jones again impressed with a disciplined spell of bowling, taking 3-38 from 14 overs.

Belper Meadows then made their way steadily to 167-8 from 35.3 overs to win the game by two wickets.

Opener Joe Slater made 22 and then there were a number of other key contributions that helped Belper Meadows to victory.

Meadows’ skipper Peter Brookes top scored with 36, George Hudson made 34 and Daniel Kelly 35.

Joseph Wilson took three wickets for Denby while Jack Richardson and Joey Severn took two apiece for the visitors.

The division is nicely poised, with only nine points separating Ashover in second place from Belper Amateurs in sixth. Meadows are now third, two points behing Ashover.
