Midtable Belper Meadows 1sts completed a three-wicket victory over Allestree on Saturday in Division 5N of the Derbyshire County Cricket League.
Belper captain Peter Brookes won the toss and asked Allestree to bat first.
Allestree’s openers made a good start to the innings, adding 56 for the first wicket.
Ben Sarton top scored with 64 and Andrew Layton 30 but after that the rest of the batsmen failed to make a meaningful contribution.
The Meadows’ attack turned in another disciplined performance to make run scoring difficult for their visitors.
In the end, Allestree were dismissed for 161 in 44.4 overs.
For Meadows, Richard Howis was the main runscorer with 5-24 off 8.4 overs.
Daniel Kelly and Joe Slater took two wickets apiece and Matt Jones chipped in with one.
Belper’s reply was built around an excellent opening stand of 109 between Peter Brookes and Joe Slater.
Slater was the first to depart, top scoring with 65, an innings that included nine fours.
Brookes went for 51 but af
ter that no-one else managed to get into double figures as the Allestree bowlers began to apply the pressure.
In the end, Belper Meadows got home by three wickets, finishing on 165-7 off 42.4 overs.
This latest win means that Belper Meadows are now in sixth position, with two games of the DCCL Division 5N season remaining.
