Sam Beveridge struck a half-century as Ambergate 1sts were beaten by four wickets by Morton.

The result left Ambergate second from bottom of Division Two of the Derbyshire County League.

Beveridge made 53 and S. Ahmed struck 43 as they totalled 171 for nine from 46 overs.

Ahmed then starred with the ball, claiming three for 39, but Morton eased to victory in the 40th over.

Ambergate 2nds also struggled in Division 7 North as they went down by 130 runs to top of the table Belper Meadows.

That left them bottom of the table and still looking for their first victory as well after five matches.

A. Hawkmoon led the Ambergate attack, taking six for 68 as Belper were bowled out for 211 in the 41st over.

But Ambergate’s run-chase ended when they were dismissed for 81 in the 28th over.

On Sunday, Ambergate lost in the first round of the Derbyshire County League Marston’s Smooth Trophy.

Tom Holmes hit six boundaries of a top-score of 33 as Ambergate totalled 121 against Tutbury. Sam Beverbridge hit five fours in his 24.

Matt Ball added late resistance with a six and four in his unbeaten 12.

Harry Clement took two for 37 in the reply.
