Strong final weekend sees Denby finish fifth

Denby CC 1sts finished in fifth position in the Derbyshire Premier League after a win and a draw on the final weekend of the season.

On Saturday, they came within a whisker of beating their hosts Alvaston and Boulton.

After losing the toss, Denby batted first and made a useful 220 all out in 49.3 overs.

Peter Burgoyne made 32, Rehan Hassan 51 and Joe Greenhalgh 26. For A and B, Adam Wheatcroft took 4-48.

Alvaston and Boulton’s innings got off to a strong start through Chris McIlroy (52) and Rahab Ali (36) but Denby hit back strongly through Joe Greenhalgh, who bowled impressively to take 5-18 from 15 overs, and Peter Burgoyne (3-44).

In the end, A and B were holding on for a draw at 151-9 when the game finished.

On Sunday, Denby won the toss at the Copper Yard against Chesterfield and batted first.

They found runs hard to come by and were bowled out for 121 in 36.3 overs.

Joe Greenhalgh made 22 and Daniel Burgoyne 20 not out.

Matt Higginbottom took 3-33 and Michael Deane 6-46.

Denby’s bowlers then turned in an impressive display to dismiss Chesterfield for just 60 in 30 overs, to earn Denby a win by 61 runs.

Greg Cork and Peter Burgoyne took three wickets each for Denby to seal the win.
