Duffield CC 1sts are still handily placed in fourth position of the Derbyshire County Cricket League Division One, after Saturday’s game at home to Rolleston.
The visitors narrowly avoided a defeat, as Duffield were just unable to take the remaining wicket and claim the victory.
Rolleston won the toss and asked their hosts to bat first.
The batsmen found it tough going at first, particularly in the face of some fine bowling by Alex Britton, who recorded the excellent figures of 7-54.
The bulk of Duffield’s run were scored by numbers four, five and six in the order with Thomas Roe contributing 29, Peter Jenkins top scoring with 62 not out and Tim Williscroft making 28.
Duffield were eventually bowled out for 173 in the 43rd over.
In reply, Rolleston also found the going tough with opener Gareth Marshall (49) and wicketkeeper Mat Ford (35) the only players to make it into double figures.
Richard Jordan (1-19 from 15 overs), Alex Jones (1-26 from 13 overs) and Adam Short (5-53) took the wickets that reduced Rolleston to 120-9, but that final wicket proved elusive and the visitors from Staffordshire were able to cling on for a draw.
Elsewhere in the same division, Stainsby Hall suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Alfreton.
It was Alfreton who batted first and they eventually racked up 292-7 from their 50 overs.
Matt Lineker led the way with 112 and John Aspinall made 67 while Matthew Smyth took 3-44 from 15 overs.
In reply, Stainsby Hall were dismissed for 116 with Ben Bignell’s 53 and Matthew Smyth’s 22 not out the only scores of note.
As for Ambergate, they came extremely close to victory at Sawley and LE Park, making 228-7 and then reducing the hosts to 158-9 in a draw.
