'A kick in the teeth but we will bounce back' - James Rowe's verdict after Chesterfield's late defeat to Solihull Moors

Chesterfield led at half-time after Tom Denton headed in Jak McCourt’s corner on 34 minutes for his ninth goal of the season.

But the hosts hit back through Joe Sbarra just after the hour before Kyle Hudlin nodded in the winner with one minute to go.

The defeat was Rowe’s first as Spireites manager and the first goals they have conceded in six matches after five straight clean sheets.

The loss keeps Chesterfield four points off the play-offs.

“I don’t think Kyle Letheren has had a save to make and they have scored two in the second half,” Rowe said.

“The second goal is a shambles from us because you don’t get caught on the counter-attack there. Kyle has held his hands up because he should be saving the header.

“We will learn as a group and we will bounce back.

“I have just told the lads in no uncertain terms you come away with a minimum of a point.

“You can dominate the game without having the ball and we did that and it was working perfectly.

“You can have all the ball in the world but it is how productive you are with it and we were really productive with our ball work tonight.

“We created chances, different types of chances, that is pleasing and there are lots of positives.”

He added: “I would have been disappointed to draw the game, but to lose it is a real kick in the teeth.

“It really should have been more than 1-0 at half-time with the chances we have had.

“We reacted really well to their first goal, come back into it, and we have created two or three clear-cut chances and have not taken them.

“Our frailty before I came in was last minute goals and that has happened there so maybe i needed to see some sort of frailty because I have not seen one yet since I have been here.

“I learnt a lot about the group again tonight. I am happy with the performance.”
