MRA Division Two
Roe Farm 2, Ambergate 2
AMBERGATE’S bad habit of slow starts continued and cost them two more valuable points in this draw at bottom-of-the-table Roe Farm.
Another crazy 20 minutes saw Ambergate gift Roe Farm a two-goal lead. Firstly, a hopeful punt forward saw lively home forward Steve Donachie react quickest to sprint through and finish well.
The second came when Kev Edges punished hesitancy in the gate defence to prod home.
A series of poor tackles from a determined Roe Farm side eventually sparked Ambergate into life, one of which gave the visitors a penalty shich Shaun Welch despatched with ease to halve the deficit.
Ambergate began to play and another bad tackle from a home midfielder caused uproar amongst gate players and in the melee that followed, a punch was thrown and the home player was sent off.
Ambergate now had almost all of the ball but Roe Farm got to half time unscathed and with a slender advantage.
The second half was a long one for the hosts as the visitors had all of the play but not taking advantage of several chances.
With time ticking away, Linthwaite, Randall and Bestwick brought saves out of the home keeper and it looked as if it wasn’t Ambergate’s day when Bestwick broke from midfield and chipped the keeper from the edge of the box, but was denied by the underside of the bar, the the ball landing on the goal line.
However, the introduction of fresh legs brought new impetus to the attack and substitute Chris Evans went close twice before finally claiming a deserved equaliser with minutes left when he headed home Bestwick’s free kick.
This Saturday, Ambergate have a big local derby at Bargate Rovers Reserves (2.30pm).
