Ambergate fall just short

MRA Junior Cup

Third Round

Rowsley ‘86 Reserves 4

Ambergate 2

AMBERGATE FC came up just short in their junior cup third round tie, eventually going down 4-2 at higher echelon hosts Rowsley ‘86.

Gate made a horrendous start to the game, they found themselves two goals down in 20 minutes.

Firstly, a Rowsley midfielder had too much space to despatch a corner and shortly after, a crazy hand-ball from Tomlinson gave away a penalty which was slotted home.

Ambergate were shell shocked but got back into the tie after good vision from Waldron sent Stevenson clear and he finished with aplomb, lobbing the keeper from 18 yards.

The visitors were now having the better of things and Ambergate went into the break with renewed hope.

However, the second half saw Gate again start slowly and Rowsley extended their lead again with a second penalty award of the tie when Waldron was adjudged to have caught the Rowsley striker who got up to slot home again.

Ambergate still felt they could get back into the game and had a few chances before Tipton’s free-kick struck a post and Linthwaite scored from the rebound for 3-2.

It was now game on and the tie opened up with both teams having further chances.

Stevenson had the best for the visitors but his shot curled wide when through on goal.

Rowsley struck the killer blow though after a neat move was well finished.

Gate are now left to concentrate on league action after exiting the cup and travel to Roe Farm this Saturday hoping for three points (2.30pm).
