Ambergate hit six of best

Midlands Regional Alliance

Division Two

Ambergate 6

Chellaston Reserves 0

AMBERGATE produced a superb all-round performance to thrash Chellaston Reserves 6-0 and keep in touch with the pack of clubs ahead of them at the top of the table.

The hosts made a strong start and took the lead inside ten minutes. Great persistence from Shaun Welch won him the ball and he laid it off to Bestwick who curled it home from the edge of the box for 1-0.

A second soon followed after a lovely ball from Stevenson saw Wayne Randall run onto it and finish well.

The third came before half time and again it was Randall finishing off a good move.

To their credit, Chellaston came out fighting in the second half but it was Ambergate who struck again, this time from the penalty spot after Stevenson was fouled. Shaun Welch coolly slotted home for 4-0.

The visitors had a few chances to get on the scoresheet but ‘gate keeper Hooley denied them whilst Magill and Waldron marshalled the defence brilliantly.

A fifth goal came for Ambergate as Stevenson broke the offside trap and finished brilliantly with his left foot.

There was still time for a sixth late on as Bestwick broke into the box and fired home.

Ambergate will be aiming to make it three league wins in a row when they host Punjab United Reserves on Saturday (2pm).
