Members of Belper Marlin Swimming Club gathered at Alfreton Leisure Centre at the weekend to swim in the Club Championships.
This event was held over the course of three days and has involved children and adults competing not only to improve their personal bests, but also to see who were the fastest swimmers in their age groups.
In two weeks’ time this will culminate in a Presentation Evening, to celebrate the club’s achievements over the past year.
Children from as young as seven competed in the 25m pool, cheered on by a full grandstand.
Parents roared encouragement and celebrated their children’s achievements and how far they had developed over 2012.
The highlight of the event for Belper Marlin Swimming Club came not from the older, faster swimmers, but from the youngest.
Five girls and two boys in the novice category, who are seven and eight year olds, swam their hearts out.
Two boys, Remy Maclachlan and Bertie Jackson, were so keen that they had to be held by the hand at the starting line!
All they wanted to do was swim in front of their captive audience, regardless of whether the starting marshal had begun the race or not.
A spokesperson for Belper Marlin Swimming Club said: “ Well done to all the younger swimmers – you are the future and it’s looking good!
“The three evenings were a perfect celebration of the achievements of such a strong and dedicated squad. “
The spokesperson added: “Well done to all involved and the parents who started the Sunday session by ou dancing the swimmers in the YMCA!”
