Belper Town pay the price for slow start against Newcastle Town

Belper Town paid the price for a sloppy start as they slumped to a 3-1 home defeat to Newcastle Town.

Despite the fantastic start to the season the Nailers made the worst way possible as Lee Cooper opened the scoring for the visitors on eight minutes with a close range finish.

The poor start got even worse when Jordan Cole double Newcastle’s lead three minutes later after Danny Haystead could only parry a shot.

The Nailers did get themselves back into the game four minutes later when Phil Watt’s shot was fumbled by the goalkeeper.

Newcastle Town did go on to control the majority of the first half and cause the Belper Town defence a lot of problems.

Most of this was done by Newcastle right-back Sam Bradbury, with his long diagonal balls forward causing Kyle Bryant a lot of trouble and opening up the Belper defence on a number of occasions.

The Nailers did come close to levelling the score just before the break when Phil Watt headed against the crossbar.

But hopes of a home comeback were shattered shortly after the break when Christopher Baker headed home after Belper failed to deal with a long ball.

Belper pushed to get back into the game and threatened to set up a tense finish when Jonathan Williams smacked and effort against the crossbar.

The Nailers play Basford United away in their next fixture in the Emirates FA Cup for Belper Town.
