It comes after the announcement last week that Chesterfield FC Community Trust had “suffered a setback” in its bid to complete takeover because one of its funders had pulled out – although they still said a deal could still be completed by the middle of March.
It had been hoped that the takeover would have been completed by February 14 but this will now not be the case.

This month it will be over £200,000. I am still working closely with the community trust and remain hopeful that a deal can be concluded with them, but I am now also talking to other potential purchasers again – including the supporters’ consortium – and we will sell the club to whoever is first over the line with the necessary funds.”
The trust, a registered charity which works alongside the club but is a separate entity, entered into a period of exclusivity with Mr Allen at the end of December. The supporters’ consortium – a different group from the trust – had been the frontrunner towards the end of 2019 but, according to Mr Allen, had “struggled to make progress.”
