County cup semi-final action for two of league’s clubs

WITH the temperatures set to rise this week football looks like being back on the calender and Saturday, February 18 brings some super Derbyshire Cup northern section semi-final action.

The league has two teams left in the last four of the competition and bopth will be vying to be crowned the best football team in Derbyshire.

So strong is the Matlock League this season the quarter-final stage saw four of it’s member teams competing for glory beating teams from some of the best leagues in derbyshire.

Hopflower FC, who take on Dronfield Town from the Hope Valley Football League, got to the semi-final with wins against Chesterfield Town, Darley Dale Lions and Shirland MW.

This season Hopflower are competing on all levels, currently lying in fifth place in division one.

The side have only lost one game all season so far, scoring 20 goals in nine games, conceding only nine.

They are in the semi-finals of the Cavendish Cup and are waiting to play in the quarter finals of the Manor Pharmacy Shield.

Meanwhile, Woodthorpe Rovers, also from division one, take on Tintwistle Athletic FC from the Lancashire and Cheshire Football League.

Woothorpe’s journey to the last four saw them destroy Stoney Middleton with an impressive 7-1 victory.

Next up were fellow Matlock League rivals Wirksworth Albion who were seen off on the back of a 4-1 win.

The quarter finals saw more Wirksworth opposition, this time in the guise of Midlands Regional Alliance side Ivanhoe. After some great football played over 90 minutes, Woodthorpe booked their place in the semi-finals with a 2-1 victory.

Woodthorpe lie third in divison one only four points off the top of the league and they also have a great chance of winning the title this season.

This weekend’s action also see’s the return of the Manor Pharmacy Shield quarter-finals.

Shirland Miners’ Welfare are home to Miners Arms; Laburnum Saints host All Inn and Darley Dale are home to Shirebrook Rangers.

The Matlock Cup quarter-finals, which involves teams from division two, also take place this Saturday.

Tansley are home to Hurst Farm United; Codnor Miners Arms are home to Chesterfield Town Reserves; Black Hippo host AFC South Wingfield

Tansley v Hurst Farm Utd, Codnor Miners Arms v Chesterfield Town reserves, Black Hippo v Afc South Wingfield and AFC Lea Holloway v Riddings Rovers.

Solar Press Division Two action sees Matlock Sports at home to Wirksworth Albion.

The Manor Pharmacy Matlock & District Football League are now inviting new or unattached teams for the for the new 2012/2013 season.
