THE league’s sides in DCFA Cup action enjoyed a mainly successful day.
In the senior version, CRIB found themselves 2-0 down at the interval when they travelled to Derby to meet FIELD LANE.
Tommy Layton netted soon after the restart only for the home team to re-establish their two-goal cushion shortly afterwards.
As he has done so often in the past, Adam Nicholls sparked a Crib revival; first scoring in open play and then converting a penalty kick to square things up and take the tie into extra time, when Layton got his second of the game to send his side through to the next round 4-3.
In the Junior Cup, SHIRLAND MW put out NEW INN from Newton 2-0, whilst DERBY ATHLETIC won a penalty shoot-out in overcoming NEW WHITTINGTON after the sides were locked 2-2 at the end of extra time.
Despite a Justin Deakin goal, our other representatives HOLMEWOOD MW lost out 3-1 to QUEENS COUNSEL.
CODNOR MINERS ARMS recorded their first win of the season when edging out NORMANTON VILLAGER 4-3 in Division One.
In a good, competitive game, goals from John Griffith, Matt Guyler and Andrew Millington (2) proved to be enough to take the spoils.
The only other game in the top section resulted in a single goal victory for MARLPOOL WHITE LION at the home of CORONATION CLUB.
Goals from James Kyte, Ben Pitt and Tim Hartwell saw THE WHEEL through to a narrow win over visitors RIDDINGS ROVERS in Division Two; the score 3-2.
TIBSHELF WHITE HART are still in search of their first victory but went down again, this time 2-5 at the hands of HAYLOFT.
RAILWAY TAVERN were beaten 4-0 by AMBER ATHLETIC for whom Matt Wilders, Andy Eley and Aaron Ward (2) were the marksmen, whilst NORMANTON UNITED hit RAILWAY (Alfreton) for six; the score line 6-2.
Division Three saw narrow home wins for OUT OF TOWN and MARLPOOL UNITED, who beat HEANOR STAFF and HILCOTE MW 3-2 and 2-1 respectively.
Bottom-of-the-table GLADIATORS FC entertained table-toppers BOUNDARY ATHLETIC in the other game that was not the foregone conclusion that might have been anticipated.
A Kallen Jenkin lobbed goal was the only difference between the sides at the break as the home side defended doggedly. The league leaders added two more in the second half through Daniel Noakes and Rob McGibbin, with Simon Bridges getting a deserved, late goal for the plucky Gladiators who may count this as a moral victory despite the 1-3 reverse.
