Four big talking points as Chesterfield collect well-deserved point at Boreham Wood

Chesterfield returned home from Boreham Wood on Tuesday night with a well-deserved point after a goalless draw. Here are Liam Norcliffe’s four talking points from the game:
Akwasi Asante could do with some more help in attack.Akwasi Asante could do with some more help in attack.

Injury blow for Joe

Joe Rowley, starting his first league game since the end of November, hobbled off after half an hour after pulling his hamstring. It was a massive shame for the 21-year-old who had started the game brightly. He left Meadow Park on crutches and said he felt his hamstring ‘pop’. Manager James Rowe said it looks like a high grade tear so it sounds like Rowley could be out for a while. Interestingly, Rowe came out in support of Rowley, who is out of contract in the summer, after the game and said he has a future at the club. He has not featured too much under Rowe but perhaps it is not the end for Rowley at Town.

Rowe’s first 10

Ten games is always the first marker people look at when a new manager comes in. Tuesday night was Rowe’s tenth in charge and nobody could have expected it to go this well. It is five wins, two draws and just one defeat from eight league games, with two victories in the FA Trophy coming on penalties. As it stands, the Spireites are two points off the play-offs and are only looking up.

Akwasi Asante has been outstanding for Chesterfield but he can’t do it all on his own. We are yet to see the best of Marcus Dinanga, Scott Boden is out of favour and is seemingly heading for the exit door, Luke Rawson has been loaned out and Nathan Tyson is on his way back from injury. I think Town could do with another striker if they are to seriousIy challenge for promotion. I understand Rowe would like another forward, but you would have to think some players will have to leave first given the Blues’ bloated squad.

Solid point on the road

It was a professional performance against a team who will be up there once again. Town restricted the hosts to just scraps and never really looked like conceding. If they can find that cutting edge against Dagenham and Redbridge and return with all three points, it will make this result look even better.
