Full Sunday programme at last as ESS fixtures beat the weather

A busy day in the ESS Chesterfield & District Sunday League saw a full set of fixtures go ahead for the first time since the turn of the year.

Most of the games played were in the Alma and Chatsworth Cups with a smattering of league games thrown in for good measure.

Alma Cup holders Britannia breezed into the next round with an emphatic 8-0 win at Clay Cross United.

Clay Cross who operate two divisions lower were no match for a rampant Britannia for whom Callum Lytham was in tremendous form, hitting four goals.

Stephen Bright scored twice, Ryan Ordidge and Ben Townsend once to complete the win.

League leaders Newton George and Dragon are 15 points above Cutthorpe in the league standings.

However, they were unable to break down a resolute Cutthorpe defence as the game ended goalless with Cutthorpe winning the penalty shoot out 4-3 to leave Newton to concentrate on the league for the rest of the season.

Another tight game took place at Hillstown Miners Welfare between hosts Glapwell Gladiators and visitors Hepthorne Lane who won the game thanks to Benny Meadley's solitary goal. Clowne Wanderers Reserves reached the final of the Derbyshire Junior Sunday Cup recently and they progressed to the next round of the Alma with a 3-0 win over ESS Three relegation battlers Dronfied Wanderers.

Sam Lomas hit a brace in the victory with Liam Vardy adding goal number three.

Hasland Working Men's Club's Matt Bower hit a treble, Luke Beaton two as they eased to a 5-0 victory over Crown Killamarsh. A seven goal thriller went the way of visitors Renishaw Miners Welfare at Brampton Victoria.

Roberto Marchetta scored twice, Joe Turner once for the Vics, but Mark Robinson's double plus one apiece from Karl Knowles and James Gee-Pemberton secured the win for Renishaw.

ESS Two sides Rangers and Hollingwood Athletic clashed and Rangers dominated the game, going on to win 6-0.

In the Chatsworth Cup Barrow Hill and Newbold Community played out a high-scoring game that produced eight goals, five of them being scored by Barrow Hill through Ryan Whittaker, Kieran Patella, Elliot Hughes, Dom Fitzpatrick and Reece Nuttall.

Craig Buchanan was in fine form for Brimington, scoring four times in his sides 6-2 win over Tiki, Paul Buxton and Cameron Hutton were also amongst the goals for Brimington.

Two Ashley Pearce goals plus one each from Sam Stringer and Chris Woodward assured Midland's progress at the expense of Clowne Community whom they beat 4-2.

ESS Five leaders Dronfield Town also went through to the next round as goals from Aaron Carrington, Jake Mallinder, Kane Snell and Josh Devereux earned them a 4-1 win over Spire Rangers.

In ESS One Jack Yeomans was on target twice for New Whitt Social as they racked up an impressive 2-0 victory at Doe Lea. Dronfield Victoria edged out Britannia Tupton 2-1 in the division's other game, Bradwell and Mallinson with the winning goals.

The one game played in ESS Two proved a fascinating encounter that saw Brampton Moor Rovers just nick the points from Bolsover Town by virtue of an odd goal in five victory.

Tim Garfoot and Joel Searson scored for Town, but Sam Gilthorpe, Mario Marchetta and Elliott Crowder's goals won it for Rovers.

A seven goal thriller in ESS Three saw Barlow Kingston Rovers take the spoils in a fine 4-3 win over Hasland Community when Dan Nowak, Ed Biggin, Tom Grant and Remi Davies-Beckett were Rovers' talismen.

There was a rare goalless draw at Hasland Wanderers where Tapton Lock provided the opposition, while Grassmoor Sports beat leaders Pilsley Community 3-1, Pilsley slipping to only their second defeat of the season.

North Wingfield WMC were in good form in ESS Four, beating Hasland Community 5-1 with Scott Alton, Nyle Curley, Ryan Garbutt, Lee Yates and Gary Brook all on the scoresheet. Renishaw Rangers were also winners, goals from Liam Edge and Dan Bateman earning them a 2-1 win at Gate Inn while Spartans and Bridge shared four goals and the points, Jordan Dixon and Brad Topham scoring for Spartans, Joe Oakley and James Pendleton for Bridge.
