'˜He's a leader and we want as many of those as we can get'

Belper Town manager Grant Black has described new signing Jacob Sturgess as a 'leader'.

Sturgess signed on the dotted line with the Nailers on Monday and is champing at the bit to start life with his new club.

The former Burton Albion youngster was part of Bedworth United squad which finished fourth in the Evo-Stik League South last season.

They went on to clinch promotion through the play-offs to the Premier Division.

And Black is delighted to get the signing of central midfielder or central defender, Sturgess, over the line this week.

“Jacob is a player I’ve been speaking to for a while now,” said Black.

“He’s fit, strong and fits into how we will look to play. He’s a big character for the team and we saw that straight away in his first session.

Sturgess includes Kettering Town, Carlton Town and Kidsgrove Athletic among his former clubs and is gunning for glory once more with the Nailers.

“I’m very pleased to have signed for Belper and look forward to working with Grant and the rest of the squad to get this club back to where it belongs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Belper’s 2018/19 Evo-Stik League East Division kicks off with a home match to league newcomers Morpeth Town on Saturday 18th August.
