The Lions took the lead in the 7th minute, when Sam Vickers latched onto a long ball to place his shot underneath the Ingles ‘keeper.

Five minutes later, it became 2-0. Sam Vickers did well to steal the ball off an Ingles defender to play a through ball to Corbi Brown, who slotted the ball past Abell in the Ingles goal.

The Lions almost added a third in bizarre fashion immediately after. Jake Askew’s goal-kick caused havoc in the Ingles defence and was cleared off the line to save their blushes.

Debutant Tom Batterham proved to be a nuisance all afternoon and nearly got his first goal for the Lions when he pounced on a defensive mistake but saw his shot saved at the near post.

Vickers could have all but sealed the game shortly before half-time after being found by Kyle Daley with an open goal, but the ball bounced up on him before he could control it and it sailed wide.

In a rare foray forward for the visitors they almost pulled a goal back midway through the second half. Billy Snaith forced a fine save out of Askew and Ollie Worthington fired the rebound over with the goal gaping.

After weathering a mini storm, the Lions wrapped up the game when Dean Oliver released Tom Batterham, and the new-signing capped off a good performance by dinking the ‘keeper for his debut goal.

Sam Vickers’ assured finish from close-range made it 4-0 with five minutes remaining, as the Lions kick-off a difficult month with a dominant win.
