A comfortable 2-0 win away to divisional rivals Borrowash Victoria enabled Holbrook Sports to cruise into the last 16 (Third Round) of the Derbyshire FA Senior County Cup.
Borrowash sit just below Holbrook in the Premier Division of the East Midlands Counties League. But the visitors were always in control of the tie, even though manager Paul Romney used it as an opportunity to rotate his squad.
Romney rested Stephen Akers, Ross Coxon, Sam Foster, Matt Harris and Niall Mather and brought back Vaughn Hallsworth up front, George Morgan at centre-half and Ashley Hayes.
After a slow start, Hallsworth got on the end of the first chance of the game when he stabbed an effort narrowly wide after a slip at the heart of the Vics defence.
And five minutes later, the Brookies had another chance when a sweeping move, started by Lee Mitchell, led to Hallsworth crossing for Jermaine Palmer, who brought a fine save from home ‘keeper Ash Warner.
At the other end, Danny Graves did well to turn a skidding, long-range effort round a post. But Holbrook finally made the breakthrough 12 minutes into the second half when terrific play by Roberto Labbate and Seb Szondi saw the ball switched quickly through midfield for Kyle Hazeldine, who slotted home a one-on-one.
The win was sealed nine minutes later when Palmer produced a quality finish for his third goal in two games since joining the club.
